Duncan is the CEO of a logistics and technology company. He has spent that last two years adding a few key hires to his long serving senior team to take the business to the next level. Despite his increased team, who are strong on paper, he is endlessly busy, rushing around and is often a bottleneck stopping progress.

Jo, the new FD, has introduced a PO system which is driving everyone crazy. Tim, the IT director, is near the end of an eighteen month ERP system installation, half the team are on board, the other half are not. Lisa, the HR manager, who used to be Duncan’s PA. Is up to her neck in recruitment, with another fifteen open vacancies. Something has to change.

Duncan has a look at the sales function, then at the marketing and finance functions and operations. It turns out, its all about the people. So who is responsible for the people? Well operationally its Lisa but there are bigger strategic issues too. Duncan needs to build a cohesive leadership team, who can deliver the strategic objectives.

Greg talks to Duncan about delegating and agreeing some company wide strategic objectives so that everyone is working towards the same goal. About developing and trusting the middle managers. About good meeting rhythms and change management, so everyone uses the new important and expensive systems. The plan is implemented and the CEO is overjoyed, the numbers are looking up too. Greg returns every week to ensure delivery of his strategic People Plan and enable the business to meet their objectives, it’s a partnership after all. Business success is always about the people.
